It’s a fair question — you want to listen to music, watch something, or keep an eye on the time. But bringing a phone or tablet directly inside the sauna cabin is not recommended, and here’s why.
Why Electronics Don’t Belong Inside
- Heat damage to the battery. Lithium-ion batteries — the kind in every smartphone — degrade significantly when exposed to sustained high heat. Prolonged exposure above 95°F can permanently reduce battery capacity, and temperatures above 113°F can cause swelling or, in rare cases, thermal runaway. Your sauna runs well beyond those thresholds.
- Processor throttling and shutdowns. Most phones will automatically throttle performance or shut down entirely when they detect overheating. You’ll likely find your phone unresponsive within a few minutes inside the cabin.
- Screen damage. LCD and OLED screens can develop permanent discoloration, dead pixels, or separation of the display layers when subjected to extreme heat over time.
- Voided warranty. Heat damage is not covered under manufacturer warranties for any major phone brand. Bringing a phone into a sauna is an easy way to turn a repair into an out-of-pocket replacement.
The Better Solution: Use the Phone Mount
Your sauna comes with a phone holder, which should be mounted on the exterior of the left wall, positioned so that the screen is clearly visible through the glass from inside the cabin. You get full visibility of your screen, your music or video keeps playing, and your phone stays at room temperature the entire time.
Tip: Pair your phone to the sauna via Bluetooth before your session, start your playlist or podcast, then set the phone in the mount and step in. You’ll hear everything clearly through the speakers without needing to touch your phone again.
