What happened to Apple Watch support in the Plunge App?

Apple Watch support has been temporarily removed from the Plunge iOS app as of version 3.6.

Why was Apple Watch removed?

Apple recently informed us that:

  • Apple Watch should not be used inside saunas due to heat-related device safety concerns

  • Heart rate cannot be reliably or safely recorded during cold plunges, as exposure to extreme cold may damage the device

These guidelines apply broadly to all sauna and cold plunge apps, not just Plunge.

To remain compliant with Apple’s policies and avoid blocking future iOS updates, we made the decision to fully remove the Apple Watch app and all HealthKit integrations for now.

What does this mean for my app?

  • The Apple Watch app is no longer available

  • Heart rate tracking via Apple Watch is disabled

  • Your core Plunge App experience on iPhone is unaffected

  • You can still track sessions, temperatures, and durations in the iOS app

We’ve also added a clear safety reminder before sauna sessions to ensure all devices are kept outside the sauna.

Is Apple Watch support coming back?

Possibly — but only if Apple’s guidance or device capabilities change in a way that supports safe use during sauna or cold plunge sessions.

In the meantime, removing Watch support allows us to:

  • Ship iOS updates faster

  • Focus on stability and new features

  • Improve the core session experience without policy risk
