Unusual Smell During First Use or Operation

A mild smell during the first few uses of your sauna is completely normal and nothing to be concerned about. Like any new appliance that generates heat, the wood, adhesives, fabric, and heating elements all go through a brief break-in period the first time they’re brought up to a full session temperature for an extended period. Any residual new-product odors will dissipate quickly.

This is a one-time occurrence and typically resolves itself after one or two full heat cycles.

To clear the smell quickly, run one or two heat cycles with no one inside:

  • Set the sauna to its maximum temperature (175°F/160°F).
  • Open all three vents fully to allow airflow through the cabin.
  • Let the sauna run for a full 90-minute cycle.
  • Repeat a second cycle if any smell remains after the first.

Note: This is the same process recommended in the First-Time Startup section of your Assembly Manual. If you haven’t run an initial heat cycle yet, this is a great time to do it.

Tip: Running these cycles in a well-ventilated room or with a window nearby will help clear the air in your space faster.

After one or two cycles the smell should be gone entirely. If a strong or persistent odor continues beyond that, contact Plunge Support.
