Sauna Tripping the House Breaker

We understand how frustrating it is when your sauna trips the house breaker. This issue will likely require an electrical test using a multi-meter tool to identify the root cause.

First, we need to determine when the sauna is tripping the breaker:

1️⃣ When I plug the sauna in
2️⃣ As soon as I activate the heater
3️⃣ After heater has been active for a bit of time
4️⃣ When water is poured on the rocks

Each scenario points to different potential causes, and below we will guide you through the steps to identify the issue and link you to detailed testing instructions.

 

🔌 1) My sauna is tripping the house breaker as soon as I plug in the sauna.

If the breaker trips immediately after plugging in the sauna, this could be caused by:

⚡ 1. GFCI Breaker Issue

If your house breaker is a GFCI breaker, this is the most likely cause. The UKU Main Module operates at both 220V and 110V, and the GFCI breaker may detect the 110V LED as a fault and trip.

⚠️ 2. Potential Short Circuit in the Sauna or House Electrical System

If the sauna is still tripping and/or you don’t have a GFCI breaker, there may be a short in the sauna’s electrical system or in the home wiring.

  2. Perform a continuity test at the Sauna Main Module

These tests will help identify where the issue is stemming from and what next steps we need to take to get this resolved.

 

🔥 2) My sauna is tripping the house breaker as soon as I activate the heater.

If the sauna breaker trips only after turning on the heater, we need to determine if this is due to the heating elements or an electrical issue.

 

🔍 1. Inspect the Heating Elements

  • Remove the rocks from the heater and check the condition of the heating coils.
  • Look for burn marks, discoloration, cracks, or damage.
  • 📸 Take clear photos of the heating elements and submit them with your support ticket.

⚡ 2. Perform a Continuity Test

📌 Important Notes:

  • Heating elements are a consumable product and will eventually need replacement.
  • You can purchase replacement heating elements by contacting our team for assistance.

 

🔥 3) My sauna is tripping the house breaker after the heater has been active for awhile.

If the sauna breaker trips after the heater has been running for awhile, we need to determine if this is due to the heating elements or an electrical issue.

 

🔍 1. Inspect the Heating Elements

  • Remove the rocks from the heater and check the condition of the heating coils.

  • After completing the Power Cord Voltage Test we need to run a continuity test.

💦 4) My sauna is tripping the house breaker when I pour water on the rocks.

🛑 Are you pouring water correctly?

When adding water to your sauna, always:
✔️ Pour slowly
✔️ Only pour water on the exterior rocks
❌ Never pour water directly on the heating elements!

🚨 If water directly hits the heating elements, it can:

  • Trip the breaker
  • Cause damage to the heating elements, leading to early failure
